Westonbirt Arboretum, managed by Forestry England, plays a vital role in the research and conservation of trees.

Boasting 2,500 species on 600 acres in Gloucestershire, it is one of the most widely-known “tree museums” in the United Kingdom.

The Key Tree Trail is a walking route that highlights 40 of the most historically, culturally, and botanically significant trees within the arboretum. This includes the ginkgo tree.

While not native to Japan, the ginkgo tree has been widely planted there for centuries and holds a strong cultural significance.

My photo is used on a plinth along the trail to illustrate how sumo wrestlers sometimes wear their hair in the style of a ginkgo leaf.
